Overview#
Free, public Dhivehi tools at /dhivehi — a dictionary, a spell-check workspace and a live writing pad — built on Radheef. They need no account and use no credits. The same checker runs in the Review Dhivehi spelling action on a transcript and in the AtollMind Dhivehi Toolbar for Microsoft Word.
Purpose#
To check and correct Dhivehi writing without sending it anywhere: spelling is checked in the browser, against a word list kept on the device.
Who uses it#
Anyone writing Dhivehi — signed in or not.
Interface explanation#
- Dictionary (
/dhivehi/dictionary): type in Thaana or Latin letters; words that start the same way appear as you type; Look up shows Radheef senses with part of speech, dialect, English where Radheef has it, examples and related words. An inflected word (ސަރުކާރުގެ) is answered through its listed word, with how it is built. - Spell-check (
/dhivehi/spell-check): paste text → Check spelling → each finding shows the word, what kind of finding it is, and ranked suggestions with the reason (vowel length, letters that sound alike, a missing sukun). Accept, Keep as written, Ignore everywhere, Add to my words, Report. Then Apply accepted changes or Copy corrected text. - Writing (
/dhivehi/writing): words are checked each time you pause; Accept changes the word in place. - Word Toolbar (
/dhivehi/word-toolbar): how to install the free Microsoft Word add-in. In Word, Home → Dhivehi spelling opens a pane with Check document, Check selection, the same finding actions, Look up for the selected word, and My words (kept on that computer, no account). Accept replaces one word, only where the paragraph still reads as it did when checked; a paragraph with tracked changes waiting is left for you to change by hand. - My words lists the words you accepted with Add to my words; × removes one. Signed in, they follow you to every device; signed out, they stay in this browser.
- Sensitivity: Cautious, Balanced or Thorough. Also show words not in the dictionary lists unlisted words as information, never as errors.
- The status line shows which word-list release is in use, whether it is saved on the device, and whether you are offline.
How to use#
- Open Dhivehi tools from the website header, Home, or the dictionary panel.
- For a text: paste it into Spell-check and press Check spelling.
- Decide each finding. Nothing changes until you accept it.
- Apply accepted changes, or Copy corrected text to paste elsewhere.
Example scenario#
"ސަރުކަރު" is marked as a possible misspelling; the first suggestion is ސަރުކާރު, because ަ → ާ (vowel length). "ހަޮސްޕިޓަލު" is always marked — two vowel signs on one letter — even though it is not a dictionary question. "ހުޅުމާލެ" is not marked: a word Radheef does not list, with nothing close, is not called wrong.
Important notes#
- Findings are aids, not authority. Names, new loanwords and many correct forms are not in any dictionary.
- Your text never leaves the device. A lookup sends one word; Report sends one word, the suggestion and your note.
- Settings → Delete my data also deletes your words; signing out removes this browser's copy of them.
- Thaana typed in an old non-Unicode font (it arrives as Latin letters) cannot be checked until converted; the page says so instead of marking every word.
